Booker T. Washington Quote
Booker T. What a man.
I'm not sure which part of his quote is saying that is perceived to have no dignity, tilling a field or writing a poem. I know a lot of people who would say that writing poetry is a waste of time, and I know just as many people who would say tilling a field is peon labour.
I liked this quote because I feel a lot of the time when I tell people I'm a writer/artist they look at me like I'm an idiot. Like the two passions I have in life amount to nothing and I should just die and decrease the surplus population. I had a friend once say that a skill that doesn't help you survive in the world is useless. (I'm paraphrasing, he was talking about working in retail.)
